This is an amazing picture.
Quoted: Sixty-five years after it ran out of gas and crash-landed on a beach in Wales, an American Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighter plane has emerged from the surf and sand where it lay buried -- a World War II relic long forgotten by the U.S. government and unknown to the British public.

Good news for science. I wasn't aware that Bush stopped even listening to scientists but now a lot of things are making more sense.
Quoted: Want to know what presidential candidate Barack Obama will do to make the U.S. a great nation for science again? Among other changes, he promises to create a position of "chief technology officer" for the country, and to recreate a space advisory council that reports directly to the president.
...
One of the best pieces of news I've heard about Obama is that he plans to recreate the post of science advisor to the president, a position that disappeared during the Bush Administration.

Oh lord. Maybe before pretending you are qualified to decide the reproductive rights of all the women in the U.S., you should talk to your own daughter about teen sex and how to avoid pregnancy.
I can't imagine what this is going to do to the conservative vote now.Quoted: Bristol Palin, the 17-year-old daughter of Sarah Palin, is pregnant and will keep the baby and marry the father, a senior aide to Sen. John McCain confirmed to CNN Tuesday.
...
Republican presidential candidate McCain was aware of Bristol Palin's pregnancy before he chose her mother for his running mate, the aide said.
...
"Senator McCain knew this and felt in no way did it disqualify her from being vice president," said the aide. "Families have difficulties sometimes, and lucky for her she has a supportive family."ShareViewed: 3 Times

I don't really see this as a contradiction. He is supporting one writer's work of fiction while fighting a libel case. They really aren't related.
Quoted: Sir Salman Rushdie has accused his publisher of censorship at the same time as trying to prevent the release of a book that criticises him. The novelist, who spent nearly a decade under a fatwa from the Iranian government after the publication of The Satanic Verses in 1988, attacked Random House for pulping a historical novel about the Prophet Mohamed for fear of offending Muslims.

Some of these numbers are ridiculous. The USDA forecasts a 14 percent price increase for eggs? Who wants to go in together on buying a chicken?
Quoted: U.S. consumers should brace for the biggest increase in food prices in nearly 20 years in 2008 and even more pain next year due to surging meat and produce prices, the Agriculture Department said on Wednesday.

Argh. If you know me, you know that spelling is one of my pet peeves. I don't think we should ever allow misspellings or mispronunciations (nuclear is not pronounced NEW-kew-lar) to be excused. We need to fix education systems so that they are able to, well, educate again.
Quoted: A university lecturer, fed up with having to correct his undergraduates' flood of basic spelling mistakes, is calling for a spelling amnesty on the most common slips.
. ..
Jack Bovill, chairman of the Spelling Society, said its national survey had shown up to 54 per cent of people couldn't spell words such as 'embarrassed', 'separate', 'accommodation', 'millennium' and 'friend'.

But he said the society did not advocate changing the spellings.ShareViewed: 1 Time
