Scientists name 100 new shark and ray species - Yahoo! News

Neat. I hope this helps us conserve more of these species.

Quoted: Scientists using DNA have catalogued and described 100 new species of sharks and rays in Australian waters, which they said on Thursday would help conservation of the marine animals and aid in climate change monitoring.
    ...
One rare species of carpet shark catalogued was found in the belly of another shark.

Student's camera snaps wolverine in California - CNN.com

I don't see how the wolverine could not be an endangered species in this area if nobody even knew that they were still there. And by the way ... not the most conclusive shot of the wolverine. Maybe it's a bigfoot baby.

Quoted: A research project aimed at weasels has turned up a bigger prize: a picture of a wolverine, an elusive animal scientists feared may have been driven out of the Sierra Nevada long ago by human activity.

The discovery could affect land-use decisions if the wolverine is declared an endangered species, a step the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is considering, although the animals typically live at high elevations where there is limited development.

Group: Amur leopard close to extinction - CNN.com

This is very sad to hear. Is there any reason to still be poaching animals such as these?

Quoted: Logging, building, farming and poaching have virtually killed off the Amur Leopard, environmentalists said on Wednesday.

There are only 25 to 34 of the graceful animals still living in the wild, WWF said at a news briefing in Moscow to report on the results of a census of leopard numbers in Russia's Far East. At least 100 would be needed to guarantee the species' survival.
