AP: Fish flies out of lake, breaks Arkansas teen's jaw

    Ouch. Darn fish! :-)

Quoted: "He doesn't remember anything at all," the boy's mother, Linda Russell, said last week. "He was laughing, and the next thing he remembers, he is waking in a hospital."

The Associated Press: Palin's husband was member of third party

I keep wondering what Palin's husband thinks of all this, whether it's something he ever expected. Haven't heard much about him. And yet there's always something about male candidates' wives -- "Why He Loves Her" -- and crap like that.

Quoted: Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's husband, Todd, twice registered as a member of the Alaskan Independence Party, a fierce states' rights group that wants to turn all federal lands in Alaska back to the state. Sarah Palin herself was never a member of the party, according to state officials.
...Voter registration records and past news reports, however, show Palin never registered as a member of the Independence Party, and backed Steve Forbes' presidential campaign in 2000, not Buchanan.

HeraldNet: Is Palin up to the job? Ask a mayor

I'm still not warm on Palin, but this was an interesting point (although I'm not sure if I completely agree ... especially if your entire life -- with family, job, mayorship -- is spent in one city).

Quoted: "A woman who can raise a family and work a job and run a city has the same ability to serve as a man who goes to college and gets a job as lawyer and runs for office," she said.

    In today's bizarro-world news...

And that priest will fly, fly away... but hopefully not in the manner of Elijah...

I kid because it's pretty hopeful they'll find him OK.

Quoted: Rescue workers on Monday searched the waters off the coast of southern Brazil for a Roman Catholic priest who has been missing for more than 24 hours after lifting off with 1,000 large helium-filled party balloons. (April 21)

Obama finally says something on this. It was an obvious strategy from the start; he should have said something sooner. Not that I don't like the idea of a joint ticket (no matter who's on top...)!

Quoted: COLUMBUS, Mississippi (Reuters) - Barack Obama on Monday ridiculed rival Hillary Clinton's repeated hints she would take him for the No. 2 spot on her presidential ticket, accusing her of playing political games...

HeraldNet: McCain seals GOP nomination as Romney suspends campaign

One question answered about who will be on the November ballot, anyway. Should be interesting!

Quoted: "If I fight on in my campaign, all the way to the convention, I would forestall the launch of a national campaign and make it more likely that Senator Clinton or Obama would win. And in this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign, be a part of aiding a surrender to terror," Romney will say...

HeraldNet: 3 babies injured, 2 fathers arrested in Marysville

    Sad, sad, sad

Quoted: While the twins' injuries are consistent with shaken baby syndrome, experts now are expanding that term to include a range of other traumatic injuries to infants caused by frustrated adults, such as the other girl's broken legs. "We're moving away from the term 'shaken baby syndrome.' It's abuse is what we're talking about," said Carol Jenkins, manager of the children's protection program at Children's. "What we're looking at are the injuries that happen to a child."
