    Huh.

Quoted: "If you want a boy, eat a healthy diet with a high calorie intake, including breakfast," says Fiona Mathews of the University of Exeter in the UK, and lead researcher of the study.

As a parent, you'll often hear how important it is to keep your child in a rear-facing car seat for as long as possible -- no matter how old or tall they are. This video is very informative and has some great crash-test clips to really drive home why it's so important! Hopefully Cadence's growth rate will slow down soon so she can stay rear-facing well beyond her first birthday. Yikes.

    Your Diet During Breastfeeding

Hokey pete! Pass the beer! (A little bit, anyway...)

Quoted: If you do decide to have a drink now and again, have it right after you finish nursing, at least two hours before it's time to nurse again. Two hours is the least amount of time it takes to eliminate alcohol from the body.

HeraldNet: 3 babies injured, 2 fathers arrested in Marysville

    Sad, sad, sad

Quoted: While the twins' injuries are consistent with shaken baby syndrome, experts now are expanding that term to include a range of other traumatic injuries to infants caused by frustrated adults, such as the other girl's broken legs. "We're moving away from the term 'shaken baby syndrome.' It's abuse is what we're talking about," said Carol Jenkins, manager of the children's protection program at Children's. "What we're looking at are the injuries that happen to a child."

Quoted: Babies are good judges of character long before they learn to speak, according to a new study. Infants as young as six months preferred characters which helped rather than hindered others in a simple puppet show.

Amazon.com: Baby Love: Books: Rebecca Walker

Random book find while looking for another...

Quoted: Rebecca has lived most of her life similarly to her mother, valuing personal independence over all else. Getting pregnant changed that. "Until you become a mother, you're a daughter," Rebecca writes. In her case, that also means a chance to be the parent she wishes she'd had. But lest she hold herself to too high a standard, it's worth considering that motherhood is, by nature, a bifurcating force: Childbirth threatens to split you literally in two, but good parenting does it emotionally, again and again.

Quoted: The association between breastfeeding and intelligence has been hotly debated. Fatty acids uniquely present in breast milk were thought to be behind why children who are breastfed as babies do better in IQ tests than those not given breast milk.
