Interesting article on rating the difficulty of Sudoku's and various solving methods (including a short backtracking program written in Ruby).

Here's port of the Processing language to JavaScript! This is cool, because now you can run processing scripts in a web browser w/o having to download additional software.

It DOES rely on the canvas tag, so I think IE is either out or requires an additional script that emulates CANVAS in IE.

Really interesting problem in recreational mathematics - try to reverse a unit line segment via translations/rotations - but in doing so sweep out a minimal area.

PI/4 is the obvious minimum - but it turns out you can do so in an arbitrarily small area.

What's odd to me, is that any combinations of moves that are either a) rotations about the center and b) translations, CAN NOT achieve an area less than PI/4; so it's counter-intuitive that you can do better than that.

Reported capture yesterday now being denied - "this guy had a similar name"??? Jees!

Quoted: The U.S. military says the leader of al Qaeda in Iraq has been not been captured, despite a claim by the Iraqi government. A military spokeswoman says it was a case of mistaken identity on the part of the Iraqi security forces.

New social bookmarking site gets coverage on TechCrunch despite launching into a super crowded space with a closed beta.

I was pretty disappointed on the lack of a 1) Faves mention or 2) any sort of analysis on the uniqueness of the service.

Seems like any startup can get a TechCrunch mention now by just offering "exclusive signups" for TechCrunch readers!

Quoted: The tagging and link-sharing market has no shortage of competition, but that doesn't seem to be deterring many developers. Mento, which has just ...

RescueTime gets TechCrunch coverage using aggregate data they've collected (proving they not only have a great application, but are masters of developing content with high link-bait).

I've personally worked on products that account for 22% of total desktop usage (Outlook, Excel, Messenger). I wonder if the other product I co-founded (SharePoint) would also make the chart if RescueTime could recognize the various URL's as all being SharePoint web sites).

April Seattle 2.0 list is out. Faves is now in the top 10 (#9 by Alexa rank only).

Now with 282 companies on just this Seattle-based list, is it any wonder that web 2.0 companies are having a hard time getting heard above the noise? Now I can understand the importance of positioning and marketing:

    - Provide a UNIQUE service (i.e. worth talking about)
    - that somebody NEEDS
    - and REACH them with targeted messages that
    - EXPLAIN (briefly) how your product addresses their need.

I don't know anything about 80% of the companies here - and I make it a point to follow Seattle startups!

Jerry Yang is trying to pump YHOO stock price by insinuating that a Microsoft deal is still possible. This seems highly unscrupulous to me. The deal is over - and any indication otherwise seems to me to be blatant stock manipulation.

YHOO shareholders should get rid of Yang and the board for blowing a lucrative deal with MS.

Quoted: (Adds investor comment, Google details) By Michele Gershberg NEW YORK, May 5 (Reuters) - Yahoo Inc chief Jerry Yang signaled a more open stance towards Microsoft Corp on Monday, saying he had been

Just noticing that Yelp reviews produce Beacon stories. I think it would be good if Faves could also create Beacon stories too when our users Fave something.
