BlueDot Relaunches As Faves With Anti-Social Twist

Nick Gonzalez of TechCrunch wrote a very nice review about our name change and new features. It's been some months in the planning and agonizing over a name change - it's nice to have it completed now.

Quoted: There are dozens of bookmarking services out there, but most are eclipsed by the size of Delicious. However, Blue Dot's bookmarking service has ...

I just /love/ the concept of "anti-social" bookmarkers. I love to see what my friends are bookmarking, but I am NOT interested in blogging.

Be Your Own Master: List of Social Bookmark Sites

Nice list of social bookmarking sites, sorted by (published) PageRank. Does a nice job of grouping sites into tiers by popularity. Faves is listed as a PR6 site.

    Microsoft Jumping Into Social Bookmarking

Community bookmarks on MSDN and TechNet. MS's previusly announced offering, Listas, was really weak - and seemed more like someone's personal experiment, than a full blown entry by MS.

Not sure how to interpret this one - but seems targeted specifically at the developer community.

Quoted: According to Microsoft Evangalist John Martin, the company is set to release a product called “Social Bookmarks” this week. The ...

Listas | What the heck is it?

Looks like Microsoft Live Labs has shipped a very low-end outlining tool on Live Labs. It also has a toolbar that looks like it can extract web clippings.

I really don't get what this service is for. Seems like Microsoft is producing a lot of things like this lately!

Slingpage Lets You Share the Web With One Click (500 Private Beta Invites)

DOA social bookmarking service. IE and Windows only, requires rich client download. Raised $2.2M in angel funding. They think they can be ad supported and make this go. Good luck (esp. given then very limited market and big barriers to adoption - I wouldn't even trial their (untrusted) software).

Compare to Faves.com which works cross-platform and any browser, does not require a rich download (just drag a favlet/bookmarklet), and works from any machine you roam to.

Quoted: The idea of leaving sticky notes on the Web for others to find has been tried many times, but has never really taken ...

Share Your Links With Mento; We’ve Got 500 Invites

New social bookmarking site gets coverage on TechCrunch despite launching into a super crowded space with a closed beta.

I was pretty disappointed on the lack of a 1) Faves mention or 2) any sort of analysis on the uniqueness of the service.

Seems like any startup can get a TechCrunch mention now by just offering "exclusive signups" for TechCrunch readers!

Quoted: The tagging and link-sharing market has no shortage of competition, but that doesn't seem to be deterring many developers. Mento, which has just ...

    Yahoo! Buzz

Another social ranking tool from Yahoo - they have a "Buzz Up" button you can add to any story or post. The most popular ones can appear on Yahoo home page (which would be a big boon to any web site).

Auto Social Poster :: Tag and Ping Software for Automatic Social Bookmarking

Social Poster is an SEO tool. I would say it is mostly "mis-used" - i.e., people are trying to game search engines by getting inbound links.

Of course, Faves.com uses "nofollow" links - so there is NO SEO benefit to bookmarking on Faves.com. But many SEO people are not sophisticated enough to realize this. So we are constantly having to remove spammer accounts.

Quoted: Tag and Ping Software to automate your social bookmarking.
