It would take a very rare solver to get through Saturday's NYT crossword w/o assistance. This blog post illustrates that virtually all were stumped by it (I got 4 clues and quit - my mom toughed it out with help from me confirming or rejecting her guesses from the solution).

Desperate for a clue to the Sat NYT puzzle, I googled one of the clues - and found this blog. You can read solving notes for each day's NYT puzzle (how this made it into Google so quickly is amazing to me...must be part of their blog search results ... and it IS blogger).
I'm going to read the notes of this solver once I'm finished (or vanquished by) today's puzzle.

You must be Mike's friend before you can comment on this Fave.The article on Klahn was as fascinating as his Saturday puzzle. But, according to the article, Klahn 'eschews' variant spellings. His Saturday puzzle appears, in at least one instance, to belie this. Also learned two new words: enigmatology and cruciverbalist.
