Me.dium.com is doing something quite similar to MyBlogLog - showing who else is using a web site that you're currently looking at.
Supports chat with other users, etc. Turns any web page into a chat room.

I'd not heard of this "3D avatar chat" service before. Alexa rank is 1,169 - so it's pretty popular. 16,000 people are "online" right now.
How is this different from Second Life?

Used in Survivor online chat application - but it DIDN'T WORK for me. I just see a box with an "x" in it. Java needed? No clue.

37signals launched their real-time group chat service (Campfire) today (Feb 2006).

I thought this was the greatest thing when it first came out. Developed at MS research, this chat client works with any IRC server. Not really a supported product, but you can download it here.
I don't know why this has not caught on more. The original dates from 1996, I think.

Hi, a couple of our colleagues wrote Huddle Chat in their spare time as a sample application for other developers to demonstrate the power and flexibility of Google App Engine. We've heard some complaints from the developer community about it and because of that we've decided to take it down.
