This is a topic I'm really interested in. I use Faves.com to bring the posts I'm reading directly into my own social sphere [disclosure: I'm an investor in Faves.com]. When I read an article, I can comment on it "just to my friends" - I think that lowers the bar for the level of insight that might be expected for a post directly on the blog.
On Faves.com, by saving my thoughts about something I read, my friends that are following me will see them as well, and this often leads to conversations about the website, and a great way to get relevant recommendations.

Faves climbs in Alexa rank, yet slips on Compete - now sitting at #11 ranked consumer site in Seattle.

Update: Object initializers are even worse! Fails to parse the JS at all.

Tony's really good blog post about bootstrapping the financing of a web 2.0 startup. I like his definition of the 3 milestones your company has to reach.

I was surprised to see Seth Godin dissing his users by not supporting commenting on his Blog (is it really a "blog" w/o user comments??).
But he does support TrackBacks. So, if you have your own blog, you can "comment" on his post.
Quoted: Seth Godin's riffs on marketing, respect, and the ways ideas spread.

A blog-search widget. Used by Seth Godin. Nice interface pops up a lightbox on you page w/o taking the user away to do a search or browse the search results page.

Several competing commenting systems now floating around the web. Disqus can do javascript-only integration, so it's not limited to Wordpress and Moveable Type (as sez-who is).
Quoted: The blog commenting system Disqus picked up $500,000 in a series A by Union Square Ventures (Fred Wilson), Naval Ravikant, Howard Lindzon, Aydin ...

Looks like a kind of syndicated comment system for blogs. I notice because Plaxo Pulse has special support for Disqus-supported blogs.
Quoted: Disqus makes your comments more interactive for readers and easier to manage for you — all while connecting your community with other blogs.

Register here for free access to Britannica articles. Open to "web publishers". I like that you can then create links to articles that will allow your readers to read full articles in the encyclopedia w/o a subscription (this is somewhat like the WSJ program, where Digg referrals get access to complete articles even if they are behind their paid-subscription firewall).
Quoted: A special program for web publishers, including bloggers, webmasters, and anyone who writes for the Internet. You get complimentary access to the Encyclopaedia Britannica online and, if you like, an easy way to give your readers background of the topics you write about with links to complete Britannica articles.
...
we’re set things up so that a link from any Web site to a Britannica article pulls up the whole article, even those that normally require a subscription.
