      I did a 360-degree turn once, at highway speeds. It wasn't planned. A truck dumped an entire truck load of gravel onto the freeway in front of me. By the time I saw it, it was too late to do anything. I plowed into it and lost control of my car. Almost instantly, my car was perpendicular to traffic. Luckily, I did the right thing by instinct and steered the car all the way around so I was still going the same way. The sad part is that after I did that and I was going forward again (in front of the gravel), another car whacked me -- a driver who hadn't even slowed down or even noticed the huge load of gravel.

      Epilogue: The first police officer on the scene decided that he had to deliberately create a traffic jam, essentially closing the middle lane of traffic and weaving back and forth to slow down traffic across all the lanes to avoid a serious accident. Huge traffic jam, lots of angry motorists, and the police never found out who dumped the gravel.
