Every programmer should have a copy of Numerical Recipes on their desk. There are so many great algorithms, easy to apply right away to your own problems.

Get access to O'Reilly's Safari online book collection for FREE with your Seattle Library card. I don't have one (yet!), but it looks like they have all the Safari books that have been published in the last 3 years.

I like the "nutshell" books. This one teaches PHP.

This looks like a good integrated introduction to both PHP and MySQL. It was published in 2004 - but does include PHP 5.

Rivest was my thesis advisor at MIT. My favorite class was 6.046 - Introduction to Algorithms, which now uses this text (http://theory.lcs.mit.edu/classes/6.046/fall01/). Our textbook at the time was Aho, Hopcroft, and Ullman (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0201000296/104-5947851-5892756).

Real code and good explanation behind many numerical-type algorithms. Kind of like Knuth, but more cookbook in nature; you can copy code directly out of the book and get up and running quickly.
