John Cook called me last night to talk about G02.ME - and then we did a follow up on Faves.com status.

30 minutes to the first web report by newspapers. Suspect was apparently shot in the head! The twitter-ers reported "dozens" of shots fired.

King5 has also picked up the story for the "ultra-hybrid".
And Ed managed to get the simultaneous endorsements of Gov. Chris Gregoire AND Dino Rossi (Ed for Governor!)

We met the operators of this Seattle ex-patriot web site. It's actually heavily visited and there looks to be a lot of useful information here for the ex-pat community in Seattle.

I saw this on this on the news last week. This is a really stunning case of police abuse of power - arresting and DETAINING someone merely for taking photographs of the police arresting someone on a public street in Seattle.
This settlement seems pretty small. I'd really like to see much more outrage on the part of Seattle citizens to demand more of an explanation about what in the H**** the officers thought they were doing in this case. What possible justification did they have to arrest and book this man into jail - they held him for about an hour and threatened to charge him with endangering an officer!
Quoted: The City of Seattle paid $8,000 to a photographer who was wrongfully arrested a year ago after he snapped two pictures of police officers arresting another man downtown.

The story does not mention the race of the boy or officer. Based on the location, there is a good chance the boy was black (25% black neighborhood - quite high by Seattle standards).
Just as in other cases - a black boy with a cell phone/wallet - may look as threatening to a white officer as a white boy with a gun.
On the other hand the kid is lucky he was not killed:
- What's a 13 yo doing out at 3am? (tagging buildings, apparently)
- Why did he run away from the police when ordered to stop.
- Why did he not put his hands up when ordered to do so (and instead pulled out his cell phone)???ShareViewed: 2 Times
