I was not aware that the Hutch is an international center for HIV vaccine trials. Learned about this last week at their Science Spectrum event.
Quoted: Hutchinson Center scientists lead the HIV Vaccine Trials Network (HVTN), the world's largest international effort to find a vaccine to prevent HIV/AIDS — the world's worst epidemic. This National Institutes of Health-funded network involves researchers from 27 cities on four continents. In collaboration with Merck & Co. Inc., the HVTN has begun a collaborative study to test a promising new vaccine to prevent HIV/AIDS. The trial will be conducted at both Merck and HVTN clinical trial sites in North and South America, the Caribbean and Australia. In collaboration with the University of Washington, Hutchinson Center researchers direct the network's Seattle area vaccine trial unit, at which volunteers participate in HIV vaccine trials.

I wasn't aware that Om had a heart attack in December.
Bloggers need to stop taking themselves so seriously. First - writing posts at a rate of several per day is probably too much. Very few readers will actually read the majority of your posts.
Even with news reader software, I can't take the time to keep up with all the blogs I find "interesting". I don't really want to read "twitchy" articles, written by bloggers who are anxious to be the first to break a story. I'd rather read insightful and educational posts where someone has actually taken some time to analyze, research, compare, contrast, etc.
Bloggers who write for a living need to find a model where they can get out of the rat race, and into a more productive (healthy) lifestyle.

Here's a piece of electronics that you buy and then hope you never have to use - a home defibrillator. We bought one last year - and I just heard that they used one at the Museum of Flight in September to resuscitate a visitor.

I note it's targetted primarily at women ("specifically designed with the Family’s Chief Medical Officer - women and other caregivers - in mind") and there's a Mom Central component here too. Is it too fragmented?

I just watched the Frontline on methamphetamine abuse again. A really good show that examines the whole distribution system that enables meth production.
A striking feature of the show is the physical deterioration of most heavy meth users. They never explain why this is so prevalent. Are they just so busy getting high that they neglect their health?
This page explains some of the health problems that chronic meth users face - many of them seem to stem from meth's effect of restricting the blood flow to various parts of the body.
