We're now displaying your "Featured Dotter" score on Buzz pages. I'm currently # 1 in:

http://bluedot.us/buzz/social
http://bluedot.us/buzz/bookmarks

(I am "head cheerleader", after all).
I think it would be a cool feature to add a "badge" to your profile when you become a Featured Dotter for a topic, or when you become the #1 Featured Dotter for a topic.

Michael Arrington's review of Blue Dot Buzz. We're also flattered to have Joshua Schachter (founder of del.icio.us) as one of the early commenters on the post.
Unfortunately, we did have some glitches with our deployment having to do with some new database components we took in this build. We had to revert them, and now all seems to be running pretty well.
This is one of the largest upgrades we've done since our launch in June. So we're all really happy to see this going live, finally. Still testing into the night - hopefully a nice and shiny Blue Dot awaits our US users in the morning!
Quoted: A few minutes ago social bookmarking site BlueDot launched a new feature called Buzz. This is a fairly unique product - part del.icio.us/popular ...

You must be Mike's friend before you can comment on this Fave.Ooh, that's a great idea!
minor issue: our blog should no longer say beta.

wow, that's interesting. how are the points determined?
@petersigrist - this dot links to a blog post that explains how the score is determined.
A secret algorithm computes a score, and then it gets divided by some value to make it look a little less "mathy" ;)
:) ingenious!!!
I ammended the blog post to give the basics of the formula for Featured Dotter "karma".
@Melissa: is the "cool idea" the Featured Dotter, or the "Badges" idea?
Both, but I especially like the badges idea. My badges would include a tiny burning bra, since I'm sure I have the monopoly on feminist dots. My other badge would be a tiny lipstick because all of my other dots are about cosmetics. Oh, the complexities of being Ms. Kruse.
@mohit: fixed the blog logo to match our new one.
@melissa: Thanks for clarifying! I like the badge idea too (though mine would be composed entirely of zeros and ones).
thanks Mike. interesting formula. :)
i'm a little ambivalent about the badges and featured dotter scores, as they feel more competitive than collaborative. just sharing links is more appealing to me than being singled out. but that doesn't mean these ideas won't eventually grow on me, this is only my initial reaction.
