The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is the central research and development office for the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). DARPA’s mission is to maintain the technological superiority of the U.S. military and prevent technological surprise from harming our national security.
Research is focused in a number of scientific disciplines including biology, medicine, computer science, chemistry, physics, engineering, mathematics, materials sciences, social sciences, and neuroscience. Our contracted researchers build information systems, aircraft, robots, spacecraft, microcircuits, lasers, sensors, rifles, advanced networks, medical devices, and much, much more.

Welcome to the Mathematical Institute, University of Oxford. The Institute is one of the ten departments of the Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences Division.
The Mathematical Institute is the centre for mathematical activity at the University of Oxford.
Whilst it is usual for mathematics departments in Britain to be split into departments of Pure and Applied Mathematics, the unitary Oxford structure, which encourages numerous strong interactions between the different groups, is regarded as a major factor in the continued high reputation enjoyed by Oxford Mathematics.

The Sevilleta LTER field station is operated by the University of New Mexico's Department of Biology, in collaboration with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge. The Sevilleta LTER field station supports research and educational programs in biology, ecology, geology, and anthropology. The field station also serves as a meeting facility for conferences, workshops, retreats and class field trips. Public access to the field station is permitted for scheduled activities; however, all field activities on the Sevilleta NWR (research projects or educational field trips) are required to have special use permits from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

An interesting article about the discovery of a new type of electrical device. Based on the equations relating charge and magnetism, Leon Chua deduced that the mathematics of electric circuits was missing an element (one that directly relates charge to magnetic flux) - he dubbed the missing element a memristor.
Now scientists believe they have found a physical device that has this effect ... at nanoscales. The device could have some amazing applications for computation.
