The structure of the research is important for reinforcing the capacity of research, working as a team and on a complementary basis, and thus establishing excellence. At the University of Liege, the research centres and units are the two entities built on specific and thriving research themes. From an administrative perspective, there are inter-disciplinary centres, of significant critical size, and research units, groups of researchers on specialised, disciplinary or inter-disciplinary themes.

Wow. I never cease to be amazed by how strange people are...
Quoted: From all across this great nation (and Canada), entries arrived in my inbox for Slate's Google Suggest contest. The question at hand: What's the best example of "less intelligent" Google query contrasted with a "more intelligent" Google query?

Marc Perkel is the most dangerous mind on the Internet. This site contains Politics, Sex, Pro Se Legal Issues, Software, Technology, People before Lawyers, Divorce, Nerd Liberation Movement, Thinking Magazine, Bartcop, Church of Reality, and lots more interesting stuff. I have about 50,000 web pages online. Yes, this is the web site that everyone's talking about. You could spend weeks reading all the material here.
The reasons politicians lie is because the public doesn't want to hear the truth. People want to hear what they want to hear. When two candidates are running and one of the tells the truth and the other says what the public wants to hear, the one who says what the public wants to hear wins the election. Thus, and there are exceptions to this, if you want to win an election, you better start lying, because the guy who's telling you the truth doesn't have a chance.

The Earth and Environmental Systems Institute (EESI) is one of the nation’s leading institutes in earth and environmental sciences research. Its diverse and world-renowned faculty members are engaged in interdisciplinary, innovative and collaborative research on some of the most compelling problems and issues of our time. EESI is part of the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences and the Penn State Institutes of Energy and the Environment.
The Earth and Environmental Systems Institute (EESI) is the portal to environmental research, education, and outreach programs offered by the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences and is one of the leading earth and environmental sciences research institutes in the U.S. EESI is affiliated with the Penn State Institutes of the Energy and the Environment (PSIEE), the central coordinating structure for energy and environmental research, education, and outreach at Penn State.

It is maintained by the Center for Environmental Informatics (CEI) , a part of the Earth and Environmental Systems Institute of the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences (EMS) at the Pennsylvania State University (PSU) .
The database was developed intially to support the PSU/EMS Earth System Science Center's interdisciplinary NASA/EOS investigation into "The Global Water Cycle: Extension Across the Earth Sciences". It has subsequently been extended to support other projects.
The data sets contained herein represent both data generated by ESSC investigators, and other data needed to support their investigations, obtained from sources such as the NASA DAACs, USGS hydrology and land surface characteristics databases, and the USDA Soil Conservation Service.

The group is under the direction of Lawrence A. Mysak, who is also a member of the Global and Environmental Climate Change Centre, the successor of the Centre for Climate and Global Change Research.
The main goal of the research in the ESMG is to develop and apply reduced complexity models of the Earth system to better understand decadal and longer term climate variability and change. Analysis of climate data and data-model intercomparison studies are also important activities of the ESMG. For further information, see Research.
