This is so messed up I don't even know where to start...
Quoted: Sarah Palin's picture on the cover of Newsweek sparks controversy. Republicans find the photo untouched. In a Fox News video below a Republican said that the Newsweek photo emphasizes Sarah Palin's wrinkles, blemishes, pores and facial hair, while Newsweek make Barack Obama's photo to look "presidential" while they deliberately made Sarah Palin look like "one of the folks".

This article really hits the nail on the head! (Also, that's a great illustration). Apparently the writer authored a novel called "The Abstinence Teacher" - seems worth checking out.
Quoted: Caribou hunting aside, Sarah Palin represents the state-of-the-art version of a particular type of woman—let's call her the Sexy Puritan—that's become a familiar and potent figure in the culture war in recent years.

So alarming. The idea that Sarah Palin is for women just because she is one is just plain dumb. She also supports John McCain's stance against equal pay for equal work. Meanwhile, Joe Biden was instrumental in the signing of the Violence Against Women Act in 1994. Now that's being a maverick.
Quoted: Voters should know if sexual-assault victims in Wasilla, Alaska, were being billed for the cost of rape kits and forensic exams while Sarah Palin was mayor.

Dang, never underestimate Barbara Walters...
Quoted: John McCain bounded onto the set of “The View” this morning, perhaps expecting a fun session chatting with the ladies about the softer side of his presidential campaign. But once he settled onto the couch, he got a pretty good grilling — on earmarks, on his erstwhile image as a “maverick” and, of course, about his running mate, Gov. Sarah Palin.

Here's the real story on Katie Couric's interview with Cindy McCain. She DOES understand Roe v. Wade, and the official statement is that like Laura Bush, Mrs. McCain does not favor overturning Roe v. Wade, which guarantees the legal right to an abortion.
Quoted: Yesterday during an interview with CBS’s Katie Couric, Cindy McCain said that she does not oppose a woman’s right to an abortion in the case of rape or incest — a position that differs from the Arizona senator’s running mate, Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK).

I didn't realize this conflation of family values with an anti-choice stance goes back to Reagan. I also didn't know how many Republicans, including Barbara Bush, favor leaving Roe V. Wade alone (assuming they're not Cindy McCain and know it what it is) as per the GOP philosophy of less government in people's personal lives...
Quoted: In the 1980s, the rising conservative movement tried to frame the pro-life cause as part of a broader family-values agenda that included reducing rates of illegitimate childbirth, welfare dependency, and divorce.

Slate takes a look at the Alaska Parental Consent Act, put into effect by Sarah Palin.
Quoted: Last week, Democrats approved the first black major-party nominee for president. This week, Republicans countered with their first female nominee for VP. From race to sex to religion, the circle of opportunity is expanding.

My latest blog entry...
1 FaverViewed: 2 TimesQuoted: It hit me like a ton of bricks today - this will be my first time voting in Washington State elections. So, it seems problematic that I know more about Gov. Corzine's record in New Jersey or Mayor Bloomberg's attempt to seek a third term in New York than I do about Gregoire and Rossi.
