Create Adobe® PDF Online: Easily convert and create PDF documents

Its interesting to me that Adobe is able to monetize PDF creation, when there are good free alternatives. Acrobat itself is too expensive ($300). I now see they are offering other price points for an online service for PDF creation:

    - Free 5 trial (5 documents)
    - $10/month
    - $100/year

Quoted: Create Adobe PDF Online is the easy way to create professional-looking PDF documents. Offered by Adobe Systems, the inventors of the PDF file format.

Quoted: This book provides a quick introduction to developing applications for the public Beta 1 build of the Adobe Integrated Runtime (AIR). AIR, which prior to the Beta was referred to by its code name, Apollo, is a new cross-platform desktop application runtime being developed by Adobe. While Adobe AIR allows both Flash- and HTML-based application development, this book focuses on building AIR applications using HTML and JavaScript.

Adobe Photoshop Express - Made You Look.

Adobe's new online photo editing application. It's very slick, using Flash (Flex) as the client-side platform. If is fast and feels like a desktop application.

Adobe Connect is $39.95 for single user (the "Professional" version in $375/mo for 5 users).

WebEx works well for Windows clients - but does not support Linux - and I've heard problems from Mac users. WebEx is about $50/month for a single user.

Photoshop Hangs At "Reading Text Global Resources... Done"

This just happened to me - Photoshop would hang on booting. Right after displaying "Reading Text Global Resources...Done", photoshop just freezes. If you click away from the window and back, the dialog gets erased to be all white. No CPU is being used and nothing will get it to load.

The solution: start Photoshop and hold down SHIFT-CTRL-ALT. You will then be asked if you want to delete your preferences file. Say yes. Boots fine now!

What a terrible BUG on Adobe's part (I'm using 8.0 - Photoshop CS).

Hadn't heard this news from November...

Quoted: Adobe has contributed source code for the ActionScript™ Virtual Machine, the powerful standards-based scripting language engine in Adobe® Flash® Player, to the Mozilla Foundation. Mozilla will host a new open source project, called Tamarin, to accelerate the development of this standards-based approach for creating rich and engaging Web applications.

Ted On Flex - Is Flex productive? TagTV Total Development Time == 8 Hours

Ted Patrick gave a demo of his Flex/Apollo application the the Future of Web Apps conference. It was really inpressive to see the same application run as a web application and as a client application. Lots of mentions of Apollo as a technology to watch for future web application development.
