Ping.fm API - can be used to post to social sites including twitter.

I couldn't find a good description on the web about securing REST API's against drive-by requests (unauthorized 3rd party calls when you visit a malicious web site).

Here's what I've pieced together today by examining what del.icio.us is doing to secure it's REST api.

Publish to FriendFeed is a simple POST once we have the Basic Auth info from the user (username, "Remote Key").

Data Consumers and Providers can use the API's of Gnip to offload demand from the original sources (e.g., Twitter, digg).

Facebook data storage

FriendFeed API has client-side JSON as well as uthenticated HTTP using a "Remote Key" that is unique to each user.
