I forgot how to turn off these headsets - the interface is pretty obscure until you get used to it - I totally forgot about the "PWR/CALL" button (the outside of the right earpiece can be pressed - but there is no affordance to show you that it is a button).

    Here are the basic controls:

On - Press and hold PWR/CALL for 2 secs (ascending tone)
Off - Press and hold PWR/CALL for 5 secs (beep - descending tone)
Hold Toggle - Press and hold EQ/HOLD (top) button for 3 secs (lo-high beep means leaving hold, 3 beeps for entering hold)
    Answer/hangup call - Press PWR/CALL once

    Vol up/down buttons
    Jog up/down switch - next/prev song

    Modes (LED Indicator/audio tones)

    On - Single Flash
    Paired - Double Flash
    Off - (duh)
    Low battery - (/dee-doop beep)
Hold - no indicator - will just (beep-beep-beep) when you try to press an button.
    Charging - Solid Light

OBJECTIFIED | Independent Lens | PBS

The 2nd film by Gary Hustwit on Design (first was the excellent "Helevetica").  This one focuses on object design and features Apple.

This supposedly aired last night on PBS - but I don't see any repeat airings scheduled.  In fact it looks like KCTS ran a Rick Steves marathon last night instead of broadcasting this movie :-(

Found it will air on Dec 22nd(!) here:

Wired Issue 17.08: The New Rules

I'm dropping my magazine subscription to Wired. They must really HATE their readers. I really wanted to read their article on Craigslist in the September issue (17.09) - but it's UNREADABLE.

I've had this long standing problem with Wired. They are so hung up on being avant-guarde in their layout, that they make the magazine unreadable for their readers. When they first came out, they used to set red type on top of a green background - UNREADABLE. This article is set with lines running nearly the full width of a magazine page - UNREADABLE.

Can't they just set their magazine in an easy to scan design?

After I dropped my Wired in the Trash, I picked up my copy of Science. It's the CONTENT that makes this magazine great - the layout is as simple and "by the book" as it gets. But it's a great magazine to scan, skim, and read.

Goodbye, Wired. I hate YOU too!

Quoted: Read in-depth coverage of current and future trends in technology, and how they are shaping business, entertainment, communications, science, politics, and culture at Wired.com.
