Who is "Cascadia"? They are part of the infamous "Discovery Institute" (defenders of Creationism and Intelligent Design) which causes me to be very distrustful of the group.
There is an energy conference at Microsoft on Sept 4-5 sponsored by Cascadia. Interestingly, they have excluded one of the strongest local proponents and innovators of plug-in hybrid technology, Ed Furia of AFS Trinity, from the conference itself (though, at the governor's request, he'll have his prototype vehicle available for test drives in the parking lot).
It just makes me wonder what the actual AGENDA of this conference is when they go out of their way to exclude someone like Ed.

King5 has also picked up the story for the "ultra-hybrid".
And Ed managed to get the simultaneous endorsements of Gov. Chris Gregoire AND Dino Rossi (Ed for Governor!)

AFS Trinity's web site is really well done. This page of videos has media coverage, and also video's they've produced to explain how their technology works to enable a hybrid to run for 40 miles w/o using any fuel.
Quoted: Developing advanced energy storage systems for hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles, power quality and aerospace applications. AFS Trinity’s Extreme Hybrid™ drive train is expected to be the first practical drive train for plug-in hybrid vehicles, enabling them to achieve 150 to 250 MPG.

So now, he can park the Tesla in the garage and have it recharged by solar-generated power after only two or three hours. Even if the driver should exceed the 240-mile range (where most other hybrid electric cars have only a 40-50 mile range), the car comes with a backup battery to provide a few extra miles so it doesn’t completely leave the owner stranded.
