I had a file innocently called 'select.py' in my local directory. I found that I could not run the Idle IDE when that was the current directory (yes, this took some hours to figure out what was happening).
Because many built-in modules are not qualified by a well know namespace (you just say "import select" and not "import python.stdlib.select") - my local copy was superseding the built in (IO completion) library.
My only error was a long timeout trying to bring up IDLE which hangs for a long time, and sometimes brings up the message "IDLE's subprocess didn't make connection"

I think this is the module we should be using to manage parent-child relationships in Drupal - the Node Relativity module is a little quirky (and really describes a directed graph of nodes, not a relationship between node types).
