With just 4 degrees of freedom, the dancing "blob" Keepon, does a great job of dancing expressively. He's a CMU robot, BTW:

Nationwide Pool Supply : Aquabot Pool Cleaners & Parts

Our Aquabot pool vacuum is dying (after 7 years). We ordered this new model as a replacement.

We considered the iRobot, but it seems that it may be a less well made product (according to Amazon reviewers - and it's just a re-branding of an Aquabot product, anyway).

Now that's a pretty cool DIY project...all you need is a surplus heavy duty in industrial robot.

iRobot - iRobot® Verro 600 Pool Cleaning Robot

This cleaner looks just like my current one. From the customer reviews it looks like iRobot is just reselling another manufacturers product. It lacks any intelligence, and just rolls randomly around the pool floor and sides.

Deceptively, the description here claims there are brushes that "scrub" the pool surfaces. In fact (according to other customer reviews - and just like my current unit), it just runs on two foam rollers that only "scrub" when the robot becomes stuck at the edges.

At $1,200 I would have expected more from iRobot.
