Aviary is a pretty amazing service. Just type "aviary.com/" in front of any URL in your browser. They will visit that page, and take a screen capture for you. You can then edit it, etc.

They also have a firefox plugin for making screen captures locally.

I don't know if they have an API - which would be really cool to use this from other services.

Got a recommendation for another of TechSmith's products - this one, SnagIt, for screen capture. One cool feature is the ability to capture the full contents of a scrolling window. So you can get a full web page image, and then mark it up in photoshop or whatever.

I still also want to try their ScreenCasting product - Camtasia.
