Sony PFM42B1 40" Plasma - PC Board Failure

My Sony Plasma PFM-42B1 has been failing intermittently. The standby light flashes 6 times indicating "PDP Failure".

Quoted: They also told me there's a design issue with these monitors that they're fixing under an extended warranty arrangement. But you have to send the monitor to them - in San Diego - to be sure. They called this the "HIC Issue", and it indeed involves the X and Y boards.

I've ordered a shipping container from them and my PFM42B1 is going on a vacation to the San Diego rejuvenation facility! :)

My PFM42B1 PDP (6 blinking lights) just went out on me as well. Called Sony regarding the HIC issue and said they are no longer repairing them for "free" or repairing any plasmas for that matter. They said they stopped doing this "a few months ago." - Dec 2007

Can Amazon save the e-book? - By Harry McCracken - Slate Magazine

Excellent review of Kindle and comparison to Sony's Reader.

Quoted: Amazon.com unveiled its Kindle e-book reader last week with a PR extravaganza that might impress even Steve Jobs. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos brandished his first hardware product on Charlie Rose and the cover of Newsweek, and secured testimonials from such

    Reader Digital Book | Sony

A cheaper digital reader. A computer is needed to download books. Is it a better DEVICE than a Kindle? But the whole process of finding, buying, and downloading books is much more tedious.

20,000 titles available on Sony store (compared to 90,000 for Kindle).

Walt comes down hard against crap-ware. I also appreciate that he's nailing Sony/Microsoft for the slow boot times of a modern PC.

Quoted: But as I rediscovered recently, often what you're forced to do instead is to spend hours as a digital maintenance man wading through annoying and confusing chores.

Restarting took over three minutes, and a cold start took more than two minutes. That suggests the computer is loading a bunch of stuff I neither know about nor want. By contrast, a brand new Apple MacBook laptop, under the same test conditions, restarted in 34 seconds and did a cold start in 29 seconds.

We work in a single room office - so it can get noisy with multiple conversations going on. So I just slip on a pair of noise canceling headphones (either with or without/music) - and all the noise disappears.

These Sony's are audiophile quality with noise cancellation.

Mossberg likes the display and battery life of the Sony reader - but pans most everything about the product and book delivery service.

One of the first products to use "digital ink" technology; the display takes no power to maintain an image - just to change it.

Sharp XV-Z3000 DLP projector reviewed - Engadget

Maybe a replacement for my Sony G90 projector? I need to move to a DLP at some point (and can pay about 1/5th what the G90 originally cost me).
