Telnet is not installed by default on vista - but you can turn it on from the Control Panel/Programs and Features.
When I do this, the "please wait while the features are configured" dialog is up for almost a minute! Jeez!
Quoted: By default, Vista doesn't install the Telnet client. The client is for text-based communication with remote systems. You can install it by following these steps:

Been battling this slow AppEngine local Web server much of today. Finally found a solution: don't connect to:
but rather, connect to:
This results in a savings of 1 second per request.
What the heck is (was) going on, I'm not really sure! I was surprised to see the second line in my hosts file:
127.0.0.1 localhost
::1 localhostI think this is for IPV6 - but my first thought was that it's supposed "add 1 second delay"!
mike | Shared With: Everyone - Mar 22 2008 | flash, youtube, vista, bugWhen I try to fullscreen YouTube videos with the latest Flash version (9,0,115,0) - I can hear the sound, but the screen is blank (black).
Is this a known problem with the latest Flash, or a bug in YouTube (or some other strangeness with my computer or Vista).
Time for reboot to see....
...well, it's still broken in Firefox 2 - but full screen works with IE 7.
Found a fix:
- Right click the Flash player
- Choose Settings
- Click the left-most small icon (Display settings)
- Uncheck "Enable Hardware Acceleration"
- CloseFull screen now works fine.

click to playJust saw this new Apple ad last night. One of the best ones yet. "PC" has a full time security agent by his side, through whom he must "cancel or allow" all his communications with "Mac".
Quote: You are coming to a sad realization, cancel or allow?
...
Sigh. Allow.

Walt generally LIKE's Office 2007 ... but only if you're heavily into creating formatting documents. Otherwise he points out some BIG RISKS for Microsoft's strategy:
- Steep learning curve (be prepared for 2 weeks of swearing at your computer ... even more than you do now).
- File format changes will be hellish esp for large corporations.Microsoft seems to be opening the door for lots of alternatives to Office. Now would be a great time to check out Google documents, and Star Office.
