Quoted: A few days ago I had pointed out that Microsoft’s bid for Yahoo was a checkmate kind of a move: Yahoo couldn’t win from this attack. Today, by pulling its bid for the Sunnyvale, Calif.-based search company, Microsoft proved that again, and showed why it is still the Prince Machiavelli of Technology. Here is why

I think this is a much more broadly applicable (and cheaper!) technology than Microsoft's Surface.
Quoted: It’s also clear that the only real limit on the screen size is the projector, meaning that entire walls can easily be turned into a multi touch user interface. Scrap those white boards in the office, and make every flat surface into a touch display instead. You might even save some money.

Quoted: The services by design approach, if it works, could let SAP protect its profitable licensed software business, get more services revenue from those customers, and address concerns large companies have with putting some of their most sensitive business data in the cloud. For mission-critical applications like accounting, "I don't think large companies will go on demand," Kagermann says.

Quoted: Microsoft will charge $26 for XP in emerging markets such as China and India, and $32 for developed markets like the United States. What do you guys think—will the price cut destroy the inroads Linux has been making into the consumer market?

One of the reasons for why Microsoft's $240M investment for 1.6 percent of Facebook does *not* necessarily imply that Facebook is worth $15B. Microsoft very likely got some "preferred" treatment in this deal.
Quoted: Microsoft is probably getting some kind of option for their $240 million…. We don't know what it is, but it's probably the right to purchase shares of Facebook at some known price in the future. The value of that option is very hard for business journalists to calculate, but it's NOT hard for Microsoft's CFO to calculate, and it's probably very significant. You have to deduct the value of the option from the purchase price before you can multiply and get the valuation. Almost certainly, the $15 billion valuation is ridiculous.
The other reason (curiously omitted) is that Microsoft received exclusive rights to international advertising on Facebook. This also has to be deducted from the purchase price.

Quoted: What’s the big deal - there are already ways to synchronize stuff on the net. Foxmarks is a good example: you install it in Firefox on several computers, and your bookmarks sync seamlessly. Live Mesh, however, is a single platform that will make it easier for 3rd party app developers to do this. If Microsoft does this right, you’ll get used to using the Live Mesh for syncing all your devices, files as well as most or all of your applications.

The Salesforce CEO doesn't hold back in calling Microsoft "the enemy".
Quoted: You’ve seen what we have been doing is slowly integrating all of our services with theirs. Certainly the enemy of my enemy is my friend, which makes Google my best friend. I have spoken with a lot of customers who want to get off of Microsoft Word.

Cool. I currently think of Windows Mobile as more targeted to the enterprise user than the home user.
Quoted: More details about the company's broader Windows Mobile plans could come Tuesday, when Microsoft makes its appearance at the annual CTIA Wireless convention in Las Vegas. Among other things, it's expected to show Windows Mobile 6.1, the next update to the software.
