just saw this. i wasn't sure if you're supposed to laugh at the geeks in the "comedy" or to empathize with them. but, that's what made the movie intriguing.
Quoted: The result is a curiously uneven film, hilarious at times, but hampered by its own sense of affectionate mockery. An audience favorite at the Sundance film festival, Napoleon Dynamite may not be entirely lovable, but it's definitely unique.

Watched this a little while ago but didn't get a chance to give my review.
It's certainly a movie for the teen guy demographic...but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't entertaining. A couple scenes were a little over the top, though.

saw this tonight. the featured comedian was hari -- the same guy we saw at the netip event. he pretty much had the same material, but he added a bit and had a bunch of supporting people.
most of the comedians leading up to him were very funny. and, the venue and crowd (nice chill neighborhood feel) were great. there's a bar adjacent to the stage, and you can drink during the show. definitely something i'll do again.
coincidentally, i think the ignite thing tomorrow (http://bluedot.us/users/mattkow83/dot/70827924238) is here as well.

Great movie. Both Michael Caine and Steve Martin make great con men. The musical score is also quite good.
Quoted: The story revolves around a simple American con-man (brilliantly played by Steve Martin) who specializes in charming wealthy women out of whatever charity he can manage to swindel. That is, until he stumbles on to the master (Michael Caine), a suave ultra-swank European who doesn't go for the fast buck, but rather for the slow millions.
...
The difference in their styles, as Martin invades Caine's comfortable European playground (and then ultimately decide to work together) make for extreme comedy. However, not the Jim Carrey slapstick that's been so popular lately, rather, this is infinitely more subtle in it's buildup, but "net net" as funny as most of the best contemporary comedy out there.

Saw this comedian tonight. His performance was a more enjoyable way to spend 30 minutes than doing nothing. He periodically delievered on a joke that made me laugh. That's why he gets more than one star.
But, the thing that bothered me was that he complains (not jokingly) during his routine about people that say stereotypically Indian stuff to him. The irony is that most of his comedy leverages his Indian background -- so in some sense he gets what he deserves.

Just watched this, and it was tons of fun -- nothing more & nothing less!
Quoted: #1 NASCAR driver Ricky Bobby (Ferrell) stays atop the heap thanks to a pact with his best friend and teammate, Cal Naughton, Jr. (Reilly). But when a French Formula One driver (Cohen), makes his way up the ladder, Ricky Bobby's talent and devotion are put to the test.

Saw this last night. It is a musical, so you have to like that kind of thing. It was quite entertaining -- as any musical/movie about con men tends to be. Going to checkout the movie (stars Steve Martin).
Quoted: Based on the popular 1988 MGM film, DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS centers on two con men living on the French Riviera – the suave and sophisticated Lawrence Jameson, who makes his lavish living by talking rich ladies out of their money; and a small-time crook named Freddy Benson, who, more humbly, swindles women by waking their compassion with fabricated stories about his grandmother’s failing health.

Surprisingly entertaining film. Highly recommended.
Quoted: If you've ever doubted how much a star can carry a movie, look no further than Legally Blonde, Robert Luketic's pop fluff about a sorority girl who becomes the reigning brain at Harvard Law School. The film tries way too hard to be pop fluff, but thankfully it also understands the comic glories of Reese Witherspoon. As Elle Woods, the supposedly dimwitted heroine, Witherspoon gives a high-wattage performance that somehow comes across as both lusciously cartoonish and warmly human.

Conan's devoting an entire show to his trip to Finland. In the past year, he became popular there after he starting making fun of his resemblence to Finland's female president.
Quoted: Conan O'Brien may be a talk-show host in America, but he's a god in Finland.
