Quoted: So do your visitors a favor and tell them immediately what your website is about. If you sell electronics, feature one of your products on the front page in a hotspot – this will tell them that you deal with electronics. If you specialize in debt reduction, choose the best hotspot on your page to convey this message. If your specialty is publishing Internet marketing articles (ala Site Reference), give them an article with an attention grabbing headline to look at in a featured area that will draw your user's eyes.

Quoted: When designing human computer interfaces (including web UIs):
...
* Minimize the number of text fields in your interfaces down to the absolute minimum necessary.
* Minimize the number of click/keystrokes/gestures necessary to accomplish actions in your interface.
* Make your interface as responsive as possible - minimize the latency of each and every action a user might take in your interface.ShareViewed: 10 Times

Quoted: We spent a lot of time on permissions in Highrise. The bulk of the code in Highrise is permissions code. We tried a lot of different systems and a lot of different concepts. We finally went with the clearest solution from a customer experience standpoint.

This company, which has 27 employees and is based in Mountain View, has taken $8 million in first-round funding from Redpoint Ventures, Lightspeed Venture Partners, and Cambrian Ventures, and is closing a Series B round now.
I don't necessarily see this site standing out from the crowd of comparison shopping sites, but the UI is pretty good. I like that they can show a) thumbnail, b) title, c) price, and d) shop button while fitting 10 items above the fold.
