    My favorite pedometer: Omron HJ-720ITC

Matt Cutts has the same pedometer. I agree with him, although it'd be even better if these devices could connect and upload data to my computer (and to the cloud) automatically via Bluetooth or WI-FI w/o having to remove it from my bag at all.

Quoted: Now I just wish every health device could connect to a computer. Omron offers a blood pressure monitor that also connects to your computer using the same software as the pedometer (it’s all seamless). I’ve tried it, and the blood pressure monitor works well. If Omron ever offered a scale that connected to a computer, I’d immediately get one of those, too. :) In the meantime, I’m not aware of any other pedometers or blood pressure monitors that connect to a computer, so it’s a good thing that they’re both solid products. :)

    Pedometers - HealthVault

Device Driver to connect my pedometer with Microsoft HealthVault.

UPDATE: So far, the main benefit I can see (which is a useful benefit) is that it uploads the info to the cloud. HealthVault, unlike Omron's software, doesn't have any particularly interesting ways to visualize my walking data.

Quoted: Omron pedometers are tested, evaluated and proven to consistently provide accurate results with rigorous attention to safety.

Autumn Pumpkin Recipes | Mark's Daily Apple

Who would have thought that canned vegetables can sometimes be healthier than fresh vegetables? The explanation sounds reasonable:

Quoted: But what about canned pumpkin?” (We had the same question.) Ready for a possible revelation? According to a University of Illinois study, canned pumpkin packs some 20 times the amount of beta-carotene of fresh, cooked pumpkin! The reason? Canned foods are generally picked and quickly cooked and packaged at the peak of ripeness.

Factory Farmed vs Wild Salmon | Mark's Daily Apple

Wild salmon is far superior, if you can find it.

Quoted: Here Fishy, Fishy, Fishy, Fishy... Last week I noted in my podcast with Jimmy Moore how expensive genuine wild salmon can cost. Since then, I’ve received

Carbohydrates, POMC and Appetite Regulation | Mark's Daily Apple

    Yum, cupcakes.

Quoted: Over a lifetime of carb-“rich” meals, these poor POMCs become increasingly damaged and dysfunctional. Given our society’s focus on carbohydrates, Andrews explains, we’re setting ourselves up for “premature cell deterioration.” Andrews also says those of us between ages 25-50 are most “at risk.” Our efforts in these years to avoid excessive carbs can encourage the longevity of these neurons and our hunger-regulating cellular balance.

Killer Carbs: Scientist Finds Key To Overeating As We Age

Quoted: "The more carbs and sugars you eat, the more your appetite-control cells are damaged, and potentially you consume more," Dr Andrews said.

"People in the age group of 25 to 50 are most at risk. The neurons that tell people in the crucial age range not to over-eat are being killed-off.

Eggs Are Healthy | Mark's Daily Apple

Quoted: If you’re reading at home and thinking “well that’s all well and good, but I haven’t had a whole egg in years,” consider this: The researchers note that between the groups, there was no discernible difference between total cholesterol, high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL) and triglyceride levels. In addition, a registered dietitian and chef drafted to comment on the study noted that “nearly half an egg’s protein, and many of the other nutrients, are found in the yolk, so make sure to eat the whole egg for maximum benefits.” And this speaks nothing of all that golden fat goodness in the yolk.

Genius Junk Food: 6 Snacks That Are Actually Good For You

    Good to know

Quoted: Did you know there are more than 15 types of saturated fat? And despite the fact that they've been damned as a whole by nutrition experts for decades, some of them are actually heart healthy. That's good news, since high-fat foods are often the tastiest.

Superfeet Premium Insoles : Achilles Tendonitis

Something to look out for if you are a runner, tennis player, etc.

Quoted: Achilles tendonitis also happens frequently in runners who perform their training in sturdy training shoes with elevated heels (all running training shoes), and then do a race or fast training in a race flat or spike that often has little to no heel elevation. This causes the Achilles tendons to have to stretch up to an inch more than they were used to, due to the training shoe artificially elevating the heel. Couple this with the fact that most races are also run at a faster pace than training and you now have two factors that will increase the likelihood of developing Achilles tendonitis.
