A writeup about the South Asian club scene in Seattle!
Quoted: The scene, sponsored by Sounds of the East, aka The Bollywood Project, has a distinctly Indian flavor drawing not only the adventurous but Asian Indians seeking cultural familiarity and reinforcement. And not far from Chop Suey, I Heart Shiva, the granddaddy of the local Asian Indian music scene, hosts twice-monthly events at the Baltic Room.

Going to try this out for lunch. Didn't even know there was a South Indian restaurant in Seattle.
Quoted: If Tom hadn't for sent me an email, I'd have never set foot in Chili's. But he knew that. "Never in a million years would you walk into this place," he wrote, describing a shop that "looks like a sketchy package-store on the Ave." One open every day but Sunday from 9 a.m. till 11 p.m., selling "tube socks, Kool cigarettes and bad wine." He failed to mention the incense, candy and phone cards, or the gyros, tacos and French fries. Because that's not why you should go to Chili's. This is why:

I drove by it today and believe I saw and "open" sign. When the people who opened the restaurant turned it over to their relatives, the food went downhill a bit -- but it's still the best Indian in Pioneer Square.
Quoted: Simba's Chicken & Kabob Reviews - "Simba's is a great place for lunch. It is kind of like a mom and pop version of Cafe Zum Zum. I'm serious when I say mom and pop, because it seems to be run by a very nice couple. Also, the food is about a…

I'll probably check this out this Saturday. There's an afterparty at Qube. Anyone interested?
Quoted: Seattle's new Arch Ensemble presents Mehfil - an informal evening of various short works showcasing Kathak, Bollywood, Improvisation and Modern dance performances in collaboration with local Hindustani vocalist Shahana Dattagupta.

Just saw Vikram Chandra speak. Despite the fact that he used Microsoft Project (yes you read that correctly) to manage the story-line in his most recent book, I came away impressed.
While fiction, his most recent mystery book allows you experience Mumbai through the eyes of characters involved in the underworld, dance clubs, the police, politics, and bollywood.. It also presents the characters in a very unbiased way -- and it makes you realize that almost no one (even one of the worst gangsters in Bombay) is all evil.
Quoted: Co-presented with the SEATTLE ASIAN ART MUSEUM and the SOUTH ASIA CENTER at the UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON. Probably no new literary work in the English-speaking world is being read, reviewed, and discussed more than Vikram Chandra's breathtakingly wide-ranging new novel, Sacred Games (HarperCollins).

Just saw this and was impressed. It was directed by Agastya, my Hindi teacher.
Robin Hood is time-warped to 2006 India by the Hindu god of love (Kama i believe). On his journey, he is given love advice on how to win over Marion. Cute, don't you think...
Also, just like any good Bollywood show, the dialog is broken up with many Bollywood songs. The crowd favorite was when Robin Hood and Marion lip sync and dance to a classic Hindi song.

Some of us are seeing this on Sunday. More info here: http://shazzam.net/agastya/bollyhood/Ballet%20Bellevue%20Presents.html
Quoted: Bollywood with a Robin Hood twist! An original dance drama with songs from popular Bollywood movies. This show is complete with comedy, great choreography, brilliant costumes and all round family fun!

In some ways I actually prefer the S. Asian club scene in Seattle to the one in NY because it's not as clique-ish and thugged out.
The ones I've been to (granted not many) were FOB'ed out... fun people watching, but watch out for the BO.
