    HybridCars.com - Nissan Altima Hybrid - Overview

Cheaper than the Camry, but the lack of a gauge showing your mpg is like a curious oversight for a hybrid car.

Quoted: The Altima Hybrid is essentially a Toyota hybrid wrapped in Nissan’s attractive packaging. Nissan licensed Toyota’s hybrid technology.
    ...
Nissan hybrids will benefit from the full amount of the tax credit for several years, while the tax credit for Toyota hybrids were sliced in half a few months ago. Within a year, the Toyota credit will be reduced to zero—thanks to an odd provision in the 2005 Energy Bill.

Toyota rules for Hybrids. They have the $, the desire, the muscle, and the headstart.

Agreed - Toyota is king. However, the Altima does have snazzier styling, is cheaper, and pretty much has the same "heart" as a Toyota. Hmm. . .tough call.

What about a cheap non-hybrid with good mileage, like a kia or hyundai?

i'd rather get a honda, nissan, or toyota than a kia or hyundai -- even though i know kias and hyundai are reliable and have great warranties.

Do you come out ahead financially by purchasing a hybrid?

Quoted: But this quick analysis misses a number of hybrids' other economic benefits.
    ...
For starters, hybrids are holding their value better than non-hybrid cars. This means that, even if you don't recoup the extra cost of the hybrid in gas savings, you're likely to get more money out of the car when you decide to sell it.
