Dotted this because I had no idea the Apple had this much penetration with iTunes. Also, didn't realize how Apple's competitive advantage re: distribution is more relevant for music than it is for video. However, I still find it annoying to have to go to different sites to watch CBS shows vs. NBC shows, for example. I wish I could get everything through one UI.
Quoted: "ITunes is totally in the driver's seat on the music side," McQuivey adds. "Everyone is terrified of Apple, which is the third-largest retailer, selling about 20 percent of the music in the U.S. But in video, the tables are completely reversed."

Went to Starbucks today and got a free iTunes download for the song of the day. I do think this promotion is brilliant -- it is enough to make me go to Starbucks instead of Umbria.
Quoted: Customers will receive free "song of the day" cards to download music hand-selected by Starbucks Entertainment, including tunes by Bob Dylan, Joss Stone, John Mayer, Dave Matthews, KT Tunstall, John Legend, Annie Lennox, Joni Mitchell, Keith Urban, Paul McCartney, Sia, Band of Horses, Hilary McRae, Federico Aubele and Sara Bareilles.

He spent 500 hours, so that works out to $25/hr. Not bad for a 17-year old.
Quoted: Hotz, who said he collaborated online with a large number of people to develop the unlocking process, put up his unlocked iPhone for sale on eBay on Thursday. The highest bid reportedly was $12,600 late Friday. The 4GB iPhone model actually sells for $499.

Wish the file format was mp3. That will prevent initial adoption by some people -- including myself.
Quoted: Lastly, we'd like to point out that, coincidentally, very, very few devices actually stand to benefit from Apple selling DRM-free AAC tracks. The iPod plays MP3s, but popular devices devices by all the big companies -- iRiver, Creative, Archos, most SanDisk devices, etc. (we forgetting any?) -- do not support AAC.

How come Apple can explain a shipping delay so much better than Microsoft can? ;)
Quoted: In a statement released today, Apple announced that its upcoming Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard will be delayed until October. According to Apple, the reason behind this decision is tied to the newest company’s gadget: iPhone.
