Andy Sack advises against creating a Judy's Book. Would be curious to hear his thoughts on exactly why.
Quoted: But start-ups should view this market place with caution and trepidation. It's quick sand. It's a slog! There are easier ways to make money! If you contact me and ask advice about your local online start up, that's what I'll tell you.

Quoted: I recall there was a study done at MIT years ago that looked at the number of founders and success of startups as measured by revenue 1 and 2 years after founding. It turns out that the success of your start up is directly correlated to the number of founders up to 4 and then it starts to decrease.

Judy's Book decided to shift its strategy. Hope the decision pans out well! Yelp, however, has gotten traction in the consumer review space...
Quoted: Simply put, they out-marketed us. They managed from early on to make their customers feel loved. They were the first site (amongst Judy's Book, Yelp and Insider Pages) to focus on getting consumer photos up on their site. This was a very powerful marketing tool. They were aggressive at experimenting with parties and alcohol and building an offline community with their community. They made joining yelp a bit of a fraternity/sorority....in a good way. Their marketing efforts for a small company were better than ours.
