Interesting that these planes will be built in China. I wonder what percentage of an airplane's cost is labor and how much this will save. Seems like this might be a big deal for Seattle based Boeing employees.
Quoted: Airbus has inked a deal with cash rich China for the biggest single order for 170 aircrafts worth approx $14 billion. The company has also signed an agreement with Chinese authorities to build its first aircraft assembly plant at Tianjin in eastern China.

the entire fuselage of the 787 is one giant piece of plastic. good to see boeing will extend this fuel-saving and lower-maintenance technology to the 737.
Quoted: The US company's new 787 Dreamliner - which is expected to make its first flight next year - is already being constructed using carbon fibre-reinforced plastic composites. And he said the materials would be used when the company decided to update its popular 737 planes.

The 787 is proving to be a market success already -- and it's not even out yet.
Quoted: Airbus now admits that it greatly underestimated the 787, which will be the industry's first large commercial jetliner with a mostly composite airframe, including fuselage. The lighter 787 will be much more fuel-efficient than today's jets, with far longer maintenance intervals, and that has given Boeing a huge marketing advantage.
Quoted: Chew said he is impressed with the 787. Singapore Airlines, one of the world's leading airlines, spent $1 billion more on fuel in 2005 than in 2004. And the price of fuel has gone up significantly this year. Fuel is now more than 40 percent of Singapore Airlines' direct operating cost. That makes a plane like the 787 very attractive.

Cool. Can't wait to fly in one of these.
Quoted: For the 747-8, Boeing has proposed some changes to the interior layout of the aircraft. Most noticeable will be the stairway to the upper deck. On present 747-300 and -400 models, the stairway is straight, narrow, and runs from the galley area located at door 2 (the second door from the front of the aircraft), to the back of the upper deck, on the left hand side.

cool. can't wait to fly on a 787. check out the quote on the windows.
Quoted: At 19-inches tall and 10.3-inches wide, the windows on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner are dramatically larger than those on any other commercial aircraft flying today. Extending above seatback height, the windows offer a view of the horizon to passengers seated anywhere in the cabin. The electrochromatic windows require no shades and can be darkened at the touch of a button.

That was not nice of Roddick.
1 FaverViewed: 8 TimesQuoted: That litany of health issues Novak Djokovic dealt with earlier in the week -- hip, ankle, stomach and more -- seemed a tad humorous to Andy Roddick. So Roddick joked about it, first by saying in an on-court interview it sounded as though Djokovic had "about 16 injuries," then by wondering aloud whether the problems might not also include bird flu, anthrax, SARS and a common cold. - Tennis news
