Nothing too surprising here...but that's what makes it useful. Helps you understand the free tools that are generally used in operating scalable Web services.
Quoted: Ask Ron - our Systems Engineering Lead - the exact number of servers we have in production and he’ll probably respond with, “I don’t honestly know.” I can say we’ve got dozens of web servers and dozens more DB servers. I can say with certainty it takes six specialized graph database servers to run the Recommendation Engine and we have another six to ten machines that serve files from MogileFS

Quoted: In this era of fragmented audiences, with newspaper journalism feeling the pressure of blogs and the Internet more generally, the Project for Excellence in Journalism (PEJ) undertook a study comparing mainstream media coverage of news with user-driven news and content sites Digg, Del.icio.us, and Reddit.

Was curious about traffic to The New York Times website.
Quoted: "The New York Times site (which has some articles behind the TimesSelect pay wall) attracted a unique audience of 12,960,000 users in February, who combined for 455,527,000 page views."
In comparison (from http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/is_digg_really_more_popular_than_facebook.php ), Digg has 1/2 the page views but 2x the number of visitors.

This is kinda surprising. But, as pointed out in the comments, users spend much more time on Facebook: 12:56 per visit as opposed to only 1:47 on Digg.
Quoted: I find it all hard to believe - not only that digg has 22 Million monthly unique visitors, but also that they have more monthly unique visitors than Facebook. digg is still a very techie user base, whereas Facebook is seemingly far more mainstream. Or is it?

Kevin Rose on the Digg HD-DVD key fiasco.
Quoted: But now, after seeing hundreds of stories and reading thousands of comments, you’ve made it clear. You’d rather see Digg go down fighting than bow down to a bigger company. We hear you, and effective immediately we won’t delete stories or comments containing the code and will deal with whatever the consequences might be.
