Are Blind Spots a Myth? - Wheels Blog - NYTimes.com

Quoted: Here’s the short and less technical version of what it says: The driver leans his head against the driver’s window and sets the mirror so that the side of the vehicle is just visible. Then, the driver leans to the middle of the vehicle (between the front seats) and does the same thing with the passenger-side mirror.

WSDOT - What is a roundabout?

Quoted: Since vehicles entering the roundabout are required to yield to traffic in the circle, more vehicles can move through the intersection with less delay.
    ...
When the driver enters, he/she yields to circulating traffic on the left, but does not stop if the way is clear.

Seattlest: Fastest Speeder Ever Caught on I-5

Quoted: A motorcyclist was arrested on Sunday outside of Eugene on charges of reckless driving. Ben Howard Kelley was clocked at going 164 mph on I-5. It is the top speed a trooper has ever verified for a speeder on I-5. Kelley was arrested wearing a helmet, one law he didn't break, but we imagine that wouldn't help much if you crashed at 164 mph.

KUOW: Tired of Traffic? Maybe Europe Has the Answer

Interesting. Seems that this would imply that the distance maintain between cars is not strictly proportional to speed.

Quoted: BUT AS CARS SPEED UP, TRAFFIC TENDS TO SPREAD OUT AS DRIVERS LEAVE MORE ROOM.
    ...
JARRETT: "So at 70 mph fewer cars get through than at 60 mph so you have a downward sloping curve."
    ...
IT TURNS OUT THE POINT AT WHICH THOSE TWO CURVES INTERSECT IS 45 MILES AN HOUR. THAT'S THE IDEAL SPEED FOR MAXIMIZING LANE CAPACITY.

WSDOT - Project - Quieter Pavement

This stuff is installed on 520 and works great. I don't hear *any* road noise when I'm driving on this stretch of 520.

Quoted: We are installing several miles of quieter pavement on some of Washington State's busiest highways. We will study the test sections to see how quieter pavement performs in the Pacific Northwest's unique driving and climate conditions.

    Must read....

Quoted: All of these fit a theme. Which is: It's not all about YOU out there. You are part of a collective. If everyone did these unselfish things, traffic would be much better:

I've had a similar thought in the past. I love bicycling, and yet, i sometimes get annoyed by bicyclists. I think this captures why...

Quoted: He says anger towards cyclists derives from a "hierarchy of vulnerability", meaning that while a bike user might make a mistake, it will be a driver that injures them.
