    President - Election Center 2008 - Elections & Politics from CNN.com

I will be the first to call an Obama victory. Take the current situation. Then, assume Obama sweeps the West coast and Hawaii. That puts Obama at 271. It's over.

Quoted: Latest results, headlines and video, candidates' positions on the issues, fundraising totals, States to Watch news and analysis, and a unique side-by-side visual comparison of the Republican and Democratic presidential candidates.

    Presidential Election 2008 FAQ

    Some great stuff in here.

Quoted: This is an FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions list) for the 2008 United States Presidential Election. It is meant to portray factual information, not the author's opinions (except where so stated). Some of the questions inherently require subjective analysis; in these cases I have tried to show a sample of responsible opinions. I need to disclose up front that I am an Obama supporter; I came to that conclusion after reading the information outlined here; I didn't outline the information because of my support. I hope you fin

How Obama does that thing he does. - By Jack Shafer - Slate Magazine

Quoted: Barack Obama bringeth rapture to his audience. They swoon and wobble, regardless of race, gender, or political affiliation, although few understand exactly why he has this effect on them.
    ...
Voters might not know what he said, but they have a good idea of what he means.

This is a script composed of data from a site that some folks dotted earlier today. What a great idea!

I was surprised by the candidate that showed up for me -- and no it wasn't Clinton, Edwards, or Obama.

Agreed. To be clear, I think he could make a good president. I just don't have enough information yet.

Quoted: join the dialog and be specific. the time of big rahrah 'born in a town called hope' speaches is way past. if you want younger voters, you better talk to them and with them. hold the paper up and talk about how different the world will be with you and ask for their input in many ways. point to policy ideas and discussions that came from your participation in the blog world.

Quoted: We are going to see more women in government and that's a good thing. We are going to see a balanced government with congress in the hands of one party and the white house in the hands of another. And that's a really good thing.

United States general elections, 2006 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wikipedia is great. They have a section for an ongoing event! Anyways, it looks like the Democrats could get the Senate, but we may not know for sure for 1 month+. The Democrats in Virgina and Montana are holding on to 0.35% and 0.45% leads, respectively.

Also, I'm pretty impressed with the predictions from: http://www.electoral-vote.com:2006/. They seem to have been spot on.

Quoted: While results of the election have yet to be certified, the Democratic Party has won a majority of House seats for the first time since 1994. Democrats may gain control of the Senate as well, pending the outcome of two probable recounts.
    ...
The Democrats have gained four Senate seats by defeating Republican incumbents in the States of Pennsylvania, Ohio, Rhode Island, and Missouri, and Democratic Party candidates currently lead in Virginia (with 99% of precincts reporting) and Montana. Gains in the last two races would give Democrats a 51-49 seat majority in the Senate and mean the Democratic Party will control both houses of the United States Congress for the first time since the general elections of 1994.

    CNN.com - Elections 2006: Senate

Senate results here. I'm more interested in following the Senate, as opposed to the House of Reps, since the outcome here (i.e. whether control will lie with the Democrats or Republicans) is less certain.

CNN is saying that Menendez is the projected winner for NJ.

United States Congress - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    Just brushing up...

Quoted: The House and Senate are coequal houses. However, there are some special powers granted to one chamber only. The Senate's advice and consent is required to confirm presidential nominations to high-level executive and judicial positions, and for the ratification of treaties. Bills for raising revenue must originate in the House of Representatives, as well as any impeachment proceedings.
