Apple Envy - Joel on Software

The back of the iPod says, "Designed by Apple in California". The back of the Zune says, "Hello from Seattle".

Quoted: Um... excuse me? Hello from Seattle? That has, I'm afraid, none of the same resonance. It evokes nothing. Boeing and rain, maybe. Kurt Cobain's unhappiness.
    ...
But really it's just a desperate desire to be like Apple, without even a smidgen of understanding of the culture code that makes Designed by Apple in California work.

Yet another iPod manager - Home

This is much lighter-weight than iTunes and allows you to manipulate the contents on your iPod more directly. I downloaded this because iTunes couldn't see all the music on my iPod.

Quoted: YamiPod is a freeware application to efficiently manage your iPod under Mac OS X, Windows and Linux. It can be run directly from your iPod and needs no installation. Take a look at the feature list to find out what it can do and feel free to suggest anything that might be missing.

    Using iPod with multiple computers

Quoted: You can manage your iPod with different computers as long as the computers are running the same operating system (Mac OS X or Windows) and you have set the iPod to "Manually manage music." If you're not using iTunes 7 or later, click here.

» 3 weeks later and the Zune is better than the iPod | The Mobile Gadgeteer | ZDNet.com

Just to offer the other side of the argument, this guy is very happy with the Zune. I am using Yahoo Music currently and vouch for unlimited music subscriptions. It looks like Microsoft has launched something similar for the Zune.

Quoted: Keep in mind a few things that help make the Zune more attractive for me that may not be applicable to others. I don't have a large music collection and want an unlimited music subscription, I also want to watch video on the device (I know many people can't understand why you someone would want to watch video on a small display, but I'm a geek and enjoy the experience during my 2+ hour bus/van/train commute), and I enjoy FM radio on a regular basis.

Toshiba Gigabeat S reviewed, iPod advantage "wiped out" - Engadget

I'm really tempted to pick up one of these. But, a nice handheld GPS device is higher on my list.

Quoted: Boy oh boy, we knew the Toshiba Gigabeat S was good after our initial hands-on at CES, just not this good – according to CNET's review anyway. See, they just snagged a 30GB model which sports Microsoft's "super-intuitive" Portable Media Center (PMC) 2.11 software and is almost identical in size, weight, and battery life to the 5G iPod it's gunning for.

Slashdot | 'True' Video iPod Coming Soon

Don't mean to be the buzzkill:

Quoted: Not to say it isn't true, but beware of Thinksecret's predictions. They've had a long string of incorrect predictions lately. Either they have bad sources, ...
