Quoted: What’s wrong with this picture? It’s the final Friday of Wimbledon and I’m reduced to either watching a pirated feed from a place where the broadcasters value live sports or following the Andy Roddick-Andy Murray match vicariously through Twitters and live blogs.

TV Networks NBC, CBS and ABC Discover Life Without ITunes

Dotted this because I had no idea the Apple had this much penetration with iTunes. Also, didn't realize how Apple's competitive advantage re: distribution is more relevant for music than it is for video. However, I still find it annoying to have to go to different sites to watch CBS shows vs. NBC shows, for example. I wish I could get everything through one UI.

Quoted: "ITunes is totally in the driver's seat on the music side," McQuivey adds. "Everyone is terrified of Apple, which is the third-largest retailer, selling about 20 percent of the music in the U.S. But in video, the tables are completely reversed."

Seth's Blog: NBC and missing the point about power

Seth Godin on NBC's move from iTunes to Amazon...

Quoted: NBC could have been this middleman. They ceded this role to YouTube and then iTunes. Switching to Amazon merely creates a third player, but it doesn't do what the networks truly needed to do--build a direct relationship between the network and the viewer. Amazon has one, so does Apple.

Couric Announces Departure From 'Today' Show - New York Times

It's official. She will anchor CBS Evening News. I hope she does well. As the article points out, a 3-hour morning show is quite different than a 30-minute evening newscast.

Quoted: Katie Couric told her audience of more than 6 million viewers that she will leave the program when her contract concludes at the end of next month.
