This club is being featured on NPR right now -- on the same segment on which we were featured last year.

Notes: They have $17,000 in the market and 15 members. Their holdings: Walgreens, Wells Fargo, Petsmart, ...

They are using "Manifest" for their dashboard:

They ended the year down 12.3%. They were invested in financials and consumer discretionary.

    Microsoft Unlimited Potential: Home

We were wondering what this was yesterday. Coincidentally, Orlando, the head of the group, is on NPR right now. He is saying the right thing -- that's it's not just about placing technology in classrooms -- it's about partnering with teachers, grass-roots organizations, etc. to deliver market-relevant solutions.

Quoted: It's about helping individuals and communities around the globe achieve their goals and dreams with relevant, accessible, and affordable technologies. Through innovative solutions and local partnerships that are transforming education, fostering local innovation, and enabling jobs and opportunities, our mission is to create a continuous cycle of sustained social and economic growth for everyone.

NPR Music Launches Compelling New Site

Anxious to try this out. I love NPR's choice of music that they play between segements.

Quoted: The new player works not just at NPR Music, but across all NPR properties. It lets you click a single link anywhere on the site to add an audio file you're reading about to your playlist. Playlists will run continuously and link back out to the articles they were derived from.

NPR : Toyota Prius Rules Hybrids, but Interest May Wane

Didn't know the Prius was selling this well.

Quoted: But While the Prius has become mainstream — it was the sixth-best-selling car in May — many of the other hybrids on the market have fallen short.

Car Talk - A Great New Way to Set Your Car's Side-View Mirrors

Quoted: By moving the side mirrors farther out, you can line up all three of your mirrors so they have minimal overlap -- and you can see everything behind you and beside you.

NPR : Researchers Identify Gene Affecting Dog Size

I've been wondering why this is.

Quoted: Large dogs can be 80 times heavier than small dogs. Relatively speaking, that's like a person being 50 feet tall. Researchers have found a gene that may account for the enormous size difference between dog breeds.

MoveOn.org Civic Action: Save NPR and PBS (again)

Quoted: House Republicans just voted to slash funding for NPR and PBS this year--and eliminate funding altogether in two years. We stopped them last year. We can stop them again. Sign our petition to Congress opposing these massive cuts to public broadcasting.

GOP takes aim at PBS funding - The Boston Globe

Quoted: WASHINGTON -- House Republicans yesterday revived their efforts to slash funding for public broadcasting, as a key committee approved a $115 million reduction in the budget for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting that could force the elimination of some popular PBS and NPR programs.

Grr. I don't know where to start with the following comment...

Quoted: ``We've got to keep our priorities straight," said Representative Ralph Regula , an Ohio Republican who is chairman of the appropriations panel that approved the cut. `` You're going to choose between giving a little more money to handicapped children versus providing appropriations for public broadcasting."

Dotting this "todo" based on a recommendation in the world view. Sounds like a fun radio show. It airs on Fridays at 7pm -- but you can listen to it online with RealPlayer.

Quoted: It's easy to say what we're not. We're not a news show or a talk show or a call-in show. We're not really formatted like other radio shows at all. Instead, we do these stories that are like movies for radio. There are people in dramatic situations where things happen to them.
