The Salesforce CEO doesn't hold back in calling Microsoft "the enemy".
Quoted: You’ve seen what we have been doing is slowly integrating all of our services with theirs. Certainly the enemy of my enemy is my friend, which makes Google my best friend. I have spoken with a lot of customers who want to get off of Microsoft Word.

Quoted: The list could go on and on and on and on…. but I’ll stop there. Certainly Google hasn’t dominated every market it has taken on, but to say that Google runs second to Microsoft online in everything but search says a lot more about Steve Ballmer than it being a true reflection on today’s online marketplace. Perhaps there’s a reason Ballmer photographs so badly

Speaking of software + services (as opposed to software as a service), I'm actually kind of excited to try this out. I like that you can preview files without an Office installation.
Quoted: The last screenshot shows the ability to preview Microsoft Office files, in this case a PowerPoint slide, within the browser:

Quite a bold move. I think companies should also consider the hybrid mode (and maybe Adobe is) -- where there is a fairly rich client whose bits can be downloaded on demand.
Quoted: At the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco today, Adobe CEO Bruce Chizen said that the company is working toward shifting all of their apps online, but that it would probably take about 10 years for a complete shift. While the web as the computing platform of the future is currently a popular idea, and while prognostication 10 years out is rarely a good idea, I'm skeptical that Adobe could pull off a full shift of its software catalog to Internet apps.

Cool. It will be interesting to see which web apps add offline support in the coming months.
Quoted: How it works: a new link called 'Go Offline' is now available in Zoho Writer. By default it downloads 15 documents (private and shared docs), which can then be viewed offline. You can download more documents if needed. Zoho Writer enters the offline mode by redirecting to http://writer.zoho.com/offline.

Wow..didn't know they were intercepting these requests and sending them to Google Office instead of Microsoft Office.
Quoted: But the greatest news should be the last one: you can now open files from the web using Docs & Spreadsheets. You can also drag and drop files from Windows Explorer to Firefox or just associate documents with Firefox. Here's the list of available formats: .doc, .rtf, .odt, .xls, .ods, .csv, .sxw.

While I've adapted to the loss of menus in most Office apps, it's still a problem for me in Excel. This addin gives you back the classic menu, but it unfortunately doesn't support keyboard navigation of the menu.
Quoted: Can’t see the familiar menus and toolbars from previous versions of Microsoft Excel? Just download and install this software and you will see and enjoy the classic menu and toolbars of Excel 2003/XP in Excel 2007.

Ramez was the MS rep on the call about the PowerSet acquisition.
MS acquired PowerSet to add natural language capability to the Live Search engine. The guess is that this was a $100M deal. Which shows there is still room for innovation in the search realm - it's good to see MS taking a stab at innovating in search.
