Interesting table showing how "big city tap water" is actually subject to many more tests than bottled water.

Zamioculcas - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I have one of these, and it is amazing. I water it maybe once a month and it still looks like new.

Quoted: Over watering may destroy this plant; erring on the side of dryness is preferable to risking tuber rot. Do not use leaf shiners. A quarter or eighth strength liquid fertilizer such as fish emulsion or worm-cast liquid may be used once a month at the warmest period for potted specimens. Bright, indirect light is best for Zamioculcas, although it will tolerate very low light. Some sun will be tolerated, very early in the morning for hot districts – morning or afternoon for cooler districts.

India’s Water Supply (1 Letter) - New York Times

many of us have been dotting about India's water problems. however, this letter to the editor describes why privatization is not the answer. the following is especially important in India where there is such disparity between the rich and poor.

Quoted: Here’s the catch: It doesn’t matter to corporations who gets the water as long as they can charge someone for it. Many privatization schemes have failed to deliver and have made things even worse by raising rates and cutting off access.

on a related note, new delhi deserves credit for some successes in the past few years
    - built a successful monorail that my sister said has actually cut down on traffic. that's a first in india!
    - banned diesel public transportation (taxis and buses)

these have contributed to reduce air pollution in new delhi. now, only if they could solve the crime problem...
