moohaha | Shared With: Everyone - Nov 26 2006 | seattle, restaurants, japanese, sushiVi Bacchus opened up last month, replacing the space where Osteria La Spiga used to be (part of the Broadway QFC near the Garage). We checked it out tonight, ordering a Dragon Roll, Spider Roll, yellowtail, miso soup, edamame and Asahi. The only good thing was the Asahi. The sushi was rather disappointing and not very fresh tasting. Don't really recommend trying this out. On a positive note, the owners were really nice! I may go back once more for quick udon noodles--you can't mess up udon noodles right?

Went here for dinner with the girls last night--it's the restaurant in the Hotel 1000. Very hip atmosphere in a hip hotel (the bathrooms are fantastic with lovely soap+lotion). I ended up having a few small bites: lobster croquettes, an ahi tuna dish, mushroom bisque with truffle oil and a maine lobster salad. Dessert was an amazingly delicious chocolate+espresso dish. Overall, LOVED the food and really enjoyed it. The only negative thing was that I thought the service was a bit slow...ended up being fine since we were just chatting away all night but I'd probably ask to speed up service on another night. Totally recommend checking this out--I'd love to try their other small plates.

Man, that didn't last long. Wonder if it was business gone bad or really her pursuing "other opportunities"
Quoted: Sue McCown's playful Capitol Hill dessert lounge, Coco la ti da, closed its doors Tuesday. McCown, the former pastry chef at Earth & Ocean restaurant in the W Hotel, said in a statement that she shut down the restaurant to pursue other opportunities. Coco la ti da, which opened in November, was McCown's first solo venture. It featured her artful and whimsically named dessert creations, such as "Sex, Lies and Apricots." McCown had acknowledged experiencing difficulties recently, but there was no word on whether she would continue her bakery and wholesale business of the same name.

Tonight, Matt and I went to check out the new space that Osteria La Spiga moved to (Capitol Hill-ers will remember the old location next to the QFC on Broadway near Pike). It's now moved to this amazing loft location on 12th Ave., between Pike and Union. In addition to its space expanding big time, they've also added a number of things to their menu. On a Friday night, they were booked solid until 9pm but we were able to slip in and grab 2 seats at the bar where they also serve a full menu. First off, the decor was really amazing--modern, tall ceilings, beautiful architecture. The food was still as great as its previous location. We ordered a beef tenderloin cooked in white truffel oil and a butternut squash ravioli in a butter & sage light cream sauce: they were both outstanding. We were licking our lips afterwards! Highly recommend checking out their new location!

Checking out this Wine Bar & Cafe tonight downtown at 4th and University. Menu looks delicious ranging from small bites to pizza and pasta to seafood and meat. Apparently, there's a huge spiral staircase in there that holds 5,000 bottles of wine! Purple Cafe has always had locations on the East side and just moved to Seattle. Looking forward to it!
Update after dinner: we loved it. Great menu with lots to choose from---lots of small bites but they also had your standard halibut, tenderloin, etc. A lot of the small bites were really creative--they're open til midnight. HUGE wine selection. Totally recommend checking this place out--if anything, just to check out the huge display of wine in the middle.
