If you're ever in Portugal, you must taste one of the pasteis from Belem. It's a short walk from the monastery and they serve them fresh and warm. These are custard tarts that are soooo delicious.

Cafe Luso is a fado restaurant in the Barrio Alto district of Lisbon. The food was wonderful and the singing was magnificent. There are typically 2 dinner settings--one at 9pm and one at 11pm. The one at 9pm is bigger with the performers on a stage; however, that's when the busloads of tourists typically come. Going to the 11pm showing is more intimate--they close up half the restaurant and the singers are just standing right in front of your table.

Casa Alta Royal Lodge - "Home Page"

This is where Matt and I stayed in the town of Ourem--the place that's run by a priest and where we were betrothed. It's really quite a retreat and certainly one of the most memorable places we stayed at. We would return here in a heartbeat.

Casa de Casal de Loivos - Turismo de Habitação

This is the B&B that Matt and I stayed at in the Douro Valley. It's a somewhat scary drive up the hillside to get to--but once there, it's total heaven with a magnificent view of the Douro Valley and river and the town of Pinhao down below. The owner, Manuel, is a hoot and makes you feel so welcome. Highly recommend staying here if you ever visit the Douro Valley.
