One of my columnists at Encarta is coming to Town Hall to speak about his latest book, "Destiny Disrupted: A History of the World Through Islamic Eyes" on May 14 at 7:30 pm if anyone's interested in going.
Quoted: People in the West share a common narrative of world history that runs from the Nile Valley and Mesopotomia, through Greece and Rome, to the rise of the secular state and the triumph of democracy; but this story largely omits an entire civilization, one that until recently saw itself at the center of world history and whose citizens have shared an entirely different narrative of world history for a thousand years.

A gal after my own heart. Will have to check out her book/blog. I love the banner on this page.
Quoted: We know that books such as The Satanic Verses and Harry Potter have caused millions of children worldwide to become possessed by Satan. Does this mean that true Christians should not read books? Let's see what the bible has to say about that:
“And Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamar; and Phares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram; And Aram begat Aminadab; and Aminadab begat Naasson; and Naasson begat Salmon; And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse.”

Quoted: Last week’s books lead, Steven Blum’s interview with David Sedaris, was a lot of fun to read. But people have asked: If Blum talked with Sedaris for an hour and a half, where the hell is the rest of the interview?

Alison Weir is a top notch historian. I read this book and am now reading The Children of Henry VIII and plan to read her other books on the Tudor period ... she has several, which you can find on this page.

Food snobs? No, don't know any.
Quoted: It gets ever harder to be a snob these days. Take food: It used to be a simple familiarity with Valrhona chocolate or a decent recipe for pad Thai could convince companions that you were an alpha in the food realm. Now, however, what was once esoteric food
