The insurance rate MPIC (Autopac) charged me was based on their established value of $6000. This spring, I was involved in an accident, and Autopac initially decided to write-off this auto. They valued it at $1200 for write-off purposes, which was the amount they were going to settle for. When I protested that MPIC themselves had valued it four months earlier at five times this write-off value when they set the insurance rate, then suddenly when theyre paying, the value drops, MPIC informed me that this was standard practice. I eventually convinced them that I could get it repaired for less than write-off, but they would have shafted me had I not questioned this
