This is part of a great series. Another title that caught my eye was "Crowdsourcing the Future."
Quoted: The key transition figure was Charles Lyell, whose Principles of Geology, first published in 1830, promulgated the concept of geologic time. This was a world-shaking development, comparable to the insight of Copernicus that the Earth revolved around the sun. Prior to the 19th century, people in the West had generally assumed that the world was less than 6,000 years old. After Lyell, people had to contend with the mind-boggling idea that the world was, in fact, billions of years old, with billions of years still to come.

Hmmm...I wonder if I could cover the entire ceiling of my office with old CDs.
Quoted: Now, the CD may be seeing the end of its days. Kramer, the retired engineer, said he expected the CD to be replaced by "the MP3 and all the little things that the boys and girls have in their pockets."

click to playStunning presentation, Chariots of Fire, a historic moment...
Quoted: Demo of the first Apple Macintosh by Steve Jobs, January 1984, in front of 3000 people. Andy Hertzfeld captured the moment quite well in his retelling: "Pandemonium reigns as the demo completes. Steve has the biggest smile I've ever seen on his face, obviously holding back tears as he is overwhelmed by the moment.

This person must have been in awesome shape to pedal an airplane across the English Channel. Apparently the Gossamer Albatross II is on display at the Seattle Museum of Flight.
Quoted: The Gossamer Albatross was a human-powered aircraft built by American aeronautical engineer Dr. Paul B. MacCready's AeroVironment. On June 12, 1979 it completed a successful crossing of the English Channel to win the second Kremer prize. The aircraft was powered using pedals to drive a large two-bladed propeller. Piloted by amateur cyclist Bryan Allen it completed the crossing in 2 hours and 49 minutes at an altitude of 5 feet...
