We have been fairly critical of the show in previous weeks since it has seemed to focus on the Brit’s shock at their living conditions, but last night’s episode managed to present some really powerful messages and hopefully left viewers with a clear understanding of some of the difficult debates in ethical trade.

click to playI love this documentary about the life of a flip-flop in Kenya.
Quoted: This beautifully photographed, charming documentary traces the fantastic journey of Africa's most popular shoes: the flip-flop. Easily bought, quickly discarded, for Westerners the flip-flop stands as a symbol of the summer holiday. But in its African homeland, it has a unique life cycle and their story reveals much about Africa¹s economy and culture.

This is a documentary by Nicholas Berger, which I saw at a recent screening at Stanford. It focuses on a group of unique and endearing characters looking back on their friend Rosalie, founder of a neighborhood library, and recently deceased. They recorded a video of Rosalie before she passed away, and the video is shown on an old television set to compliment their stories. I really enjoyed this form of narrative.
The video isn't online yet, but it is currently being submitted to film festivals. If you happen to see it listed, I very highly recommend checking it out!

Hmmm...laughter is good but I'm not sure if I could do it on purpose to promote health, as in laughter yoga. I guess I'll have to see the movie to find out more about how it works.
Quoted: Mira Nair's latest documentary is a portrait of the 'serious laughers' who meet daily in India - and now the U.S. as well -- to laugh as a group in order to improve their health.
