    Rhythm Changes

This standard set of chord changes is a requirement for the improvising jazz musician. I'm working on it now since I'll be playing "Oleo" (by Sonny Rollins using these chords) with a pianist this week.

Quoted: Rhythm Changes for guitar. Chord progressions, techniques and examples.

    Jazz Improvisation Primer: Playing Changes

Quoted: Once you have some idea of the association between chord symbols and scales, and how to develop a melodic line, you can start improvising over chord progressions. In performance situations, the rhythm section will be outlining the chord progressions in tempo, while you play improvised lines based on the associated scales. Often the chords will change every measure, and you must keep changing scales to keep up. However, you should not think one chord at a time. You should be trying to construct lines that lead from one chord to the next.

    Mark Bolin Jazz Guitar Lessons

Welcome to the lesson page. One of the main reasons for putting up this web site is to be able to share jazz guitar lesson materials. Several PDF lessons are posted below. I will be adding more as time goes by, so be sure and check back often.

At the bottom of this page, I have included a list of music books that have been most helpful to me. Be sure to check the links page for other artist web sites that share lesson materials.

I left a portable recorder running at our rehearsal last Saturday. It was pointing straight at my amp so I'm too loud on the recording. Sorry.

We'll be playing at RMI this Thursday night and you're welcome to drop by and give us a listen...there's no cover
